Our Commitment to Reconciliation: Pope Road Kindergarten's RAP Re-Endorsed
At Pope Road Kindergarten, reconciliation is an ongoing journey of learning, reflection and meaningful action.
We are proud to share that our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been re-endorsed by Reconciliation Australia, recognising our continued commitment to building respectful relationships and embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives into our learning and teaching with children, families and community.
What is a Reconciliation Action Plan?
A Reconciliation Action Plan provides a framework for organisations to take meaningful steps towards reconciliation.
Developed through the Narragunnawali Reconciliation in Education program, our RAP supports us in strengthening relationships, respect and opportunities for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
For our kindergarten, the RAP is more than a document. It is a commitment to continually reflect on our practices, deepen our understanding and create an educational environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and perspectives are respected, valued and meaningfully represented.
Reconciliation in Everyday Practice
At Pope Road Kindergarten, we honour young children as capable, curious and thoughtful learners who develop their understanding of the world through relationships, exploration and meaningful experiences.
Our commitment to reconciliation is woven into this approach.
Through conversations, stories, creative expression and connections children are provided with opportunities to develop respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and deepen their understanding of the rich histories and cultures of Australia's First Peoples.
These experiences are not limited to particular celebrations or significant dates. Rather, we strive to ensure that reconciliation is reflected in our everyday educational practices and the learning environment we create together.
Reflections from our Educators
Our educators play an important role in bringing our Reconciliation Action Plan to life.
Following the re-endorsement of our RAP, our Director, Leanne, shared this important milestone with our kindergarten community and invited our educators to reflect on what reconciliation looks like in their everyday practice.
Educators Irene, Lydia & Jaimi also share their perspectives, offering insight into ways our commitment to reconciliation informs their work with the children and families.
Their reflections remind us that reconciliation is an ongoing process, requiring thoughtful consideration, meaningful engagement and a willingness to continue learning.
Continuing our Reconciliation Journey
While the re-endorsement of our RAP is an important milestone, we recognise that reconciliation is not something that can be completed or achieved through a single action.
It is an ongoing responsibility and a commitment to listening, learning, building relationships and reflecting on how we can continue to strengthen our practice.
We are grateful to our educators, children and families for being part of this journey and look forward to continuing this important work together.
At Pope Road Kindergarten, we remain committed to creating a learning community grounded in respect, inclusion and a shared responsibility for reconciliation.
